What is the Business Owners' Board of Directors?

The Board of Directors for Business Owners is a forum for fellow presidents, owners, and CEO’s of non-competing companies to improve their business and solve problems. In business, the unknown is often where the growth is. Expand your lens and capitalize on the wealth of experience and insight in the room. Our members have a “safe place” to discuss issues, solve problems and identify opportunities.

What Takes Place at a BOD Meeting?

Board meetings are designed to encourage members to work “on their business” as opposed to working “in their business”.  You will be encouraged to step back from the day-to-day pressures, take a more objective view, and gain added perspective from the insight, experiences, and collaborative innovation of other business professionals.

Led by a skilled facilitator, each meeting consists of two parts.  The first part may include a pre-chosen topic for review and discussion. Your facilitator might share a thought-provoking article or arrange an outside presentation.  The bulk of the meeting is devoted to members’ specific issues. Each member is given an opportunity to share a problem, raise questions and request input from the group.

Subjects can range from soup to nuts.  You will tackle issues near and dear to your heart whether it’s a proposed compensation plan, a challenging employee, or a possible purchase or merger.  If it pertains to your business, you can put it on the table.

The Board of Directors meeting is held once per month, generally on the same day each month, (ex:  3rd. Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.)  Each meeting will last 3-4 hours depending upon the topics and discussion. We are committed to making the best use of our Board Members' valuable time.

How Do I Find the Time for BOD Membership?

Unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in each day.  BOD membership can make you more productive, but no one can create more time.

The real question is - How do you feel about your business?  Do you want to take it to the next level?  Get more out of it?  Do you believe that you could be more profitable?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it’s time to do something different.  It’s easy and comfortable to keep doing things the same old way, but unless you start making changes, your business can’t change.
Change requires commitment. The BOD for Small Business Owners is for entrepreneurs who are committed to improving their businesses and their lives and are willing to invest a few hours each month to do so.

Getting the Most Value From Your Membership

You will get the most benefit from your BOD membership if you are willing to take the time and do the work it takes to make your business better. Not the physical, day-to-day work to run your business but the x-ray approach that allows you to see under the surface for improvement gaps and growth opportunities. Members must be respectful and open to new ideas or constructive feedback from fellow board members whether you’re providing the feedback or receiving it. Most of all, you must be committed to improving your business and taking accountability to do so.

Business Owner Board Membership In A Tough Economy

This is the best time to join the Board of Directors for Small Business Owners.  During a recession, the tendency of most business owners is to cut costs such as marketing and training. Yet, studies indicate that the most successful companies do exactly the opposite. These organizations move fast and move with a plan to reinvent themselves.

Business owners are advised to build a network of advisors that will help propel your business forward and take actions with a long-term view in mind.

Lee Iacocca, former President and CEO of Chrysler Corporation is credited with pulling Chrysler out of the brink of financial ruin.  Iacocca is quoted as once saying “ We are continually faced by great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems."

Today’s leaders must be visionaries for their companies.  No longer can they afford to maintain the status quo but instead must prepare for the future.  Think about your business and the roads not taken or decisions you would not make again. Your Board Membership will position you to grow faster than your competitors, make better decisions and seize business opportunities with greater agility.

Join the Board of Directors for Small Business Owners.  It will be one of the best investments you’ll ever make for your business and yourself!

I highly recommend using WILLCO to grow your business! I have nearly doubled my revenue. They were very helpful in helping me develop a business plan for growth as well as securing some funding. I now have several government contracts and looking for more employees to get the work done!

WILLCO helped me out of a tough situation.  Turnover and COVID resulted in newly untrained staff and a host of issues that had to be resolved. WILLCO performed an Audit for my company. The recommendations and ‘fixes’ were spot on and not only improved the environment, it kept us out of court!  Sleeping a lot better now!
